Woman pours rubbing alcohol on disabled 2-year-old child, threatens to kill on Facebook Live

When mental illness isn’t addressed.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — On August 9th, authorities responded to the residence of 29-year-old Darshanda McNeal.

Inside apartment #70 McNeal was arrested and charged with child endangerment. Police accuse the mother of live-streaming threats to harm her child, on the popular FACEBOOK social media platform.

McNeal allegedly  poured rubbing alcohol on her 2-year-old child while she live-streamed on Facebook the same day.   Police arrested her at her Davenport residence after reports of the video.

Police say she said she wanted to kill her baby in the video. When she was arrested, McNeal said she didn’t know why she did it, police said, but later told police she did it “for fun.” The child is reportedly disabled.

The child was hospitalized but reportedly did not have any physical injuries.

Neither her profile page nor the video were found.

The baby was transported to the hospital but did not have any physical injuries.

There are quite a few underlying issues in this story that could be addressed if the court system actually cared.

  1. Darshanda appears to suffer from some form of mental illness.
  2. How much help is given to mothers who birth children with deformities, handicaps or mental challenges? I would say not much.
  3. Darshanda has a need for attention and doesn’t know how to do so in a positive manner. Could watching the antics of social media stars play apart in Darshanda’s decision? They say money is the root of all evil, but in the era of social media stardom, so is attention. These days people will do just about anything to get attention.

As Darshanda gets processed through the system, how much help is she going to get inside? How many of her issues will be addressed? ZERO.  But she will do free slave labor, being forced to work in the kitchen.

My mother was born mentally challenged and couldn’t take care of her kids. She’s sweet as pie, but if left to take care of her kids she would’ve harmed my siblings and I severely. But no one would’ve cared that her behavior actually wasn’t her fault. The court system didn’t care that she had the mental capacity of a  child. They didn’t offer to help her, except to throw her in a mental hospital for years.  Which they did.

It is my hope that you can now begin to look at these stories from a different perspective and understand that people sometimes need a little help.
