Houston, Texas – Kellin McGowan, a student at St. Thomas High School is already making historic bounds in academics. He is being congratulated with a badge of excellence after becoming the school’s first Black valedictorian in the school’s 119-year history, KHOU 11 reports.
Celebrating his big accomplishment, McGowan said, “By being valedictorian, I think that I can change some people’s perspective about my race specifically.”
An all-boys Roman Catholic college preparatory school, St. Thomas was founded in 1900.
