Shallotte, NC – This is a strange tale. The winner of a $10 million North Carolina lottery prize is in jail and charged with murder in connection with the death of a woman found dead in a hotel room.
3-years ago, Michael Todd Hill, now 52, won the lottery.
He and his wife greatly enjoyed the money.
Hill was a nuclear power plant worker married to a woman with an instructional design business.. Hill said he planned on investing some of the money into his wife’s business.
According to the New York Post and WECT-6, Hill purchased an Ultimate Millions ticket from a gas station, the Maco Depot on Maco Road. He claimed his prize in Raleigh at the lottery headquarters and took a lump sum of $6 million, which was roughly $4.1 million after federal tax withholdings.
He also gave the friendly clerk who sold him the ticket $2,000.
3-years later, Hill is broke and has been arrested for murder.
On Sunday, July 18, 2020, Hill checked into the SureStay Hotel in Shallotte, N.C. He was alone at the time of check-in, according to the manager.
After Hill’s 11 a.m. Monday checkout time had passed, a housekeeper who received no response after several knocks entered the room and saw the victim unconscious. Blood was in the room.
She was in shock and given time off.
The victim, 23-year-old Keonna Graham, was discovered deceased about 11:30 a.m. Monday inside the room.
In the early hours Tuesday, authorities arrested Michael Todd Hill, 52, about 35 miles away in Southport, on the murder charge, according to a police news release.
Police have released no information on how they believe Graham was murdered and have said they are waiting on autopsy results. Police released no other details of the alleged crime.
Graham lived about 45 miles away from Shallotte in Navassa, N.C., with her mother and a 10-year-old sister, Zoey, with whom she had an “unbreakable bond,” said a cousin, Antionette Lee, reports the AP.
She was employed as a correctional officer at a prison in Burgaw, North Carolina, and previously worked in a program for people with intellectual disabilities, said Lee.
“We are hurting. We are in pain,” said Lee. “Our family is devastated.”
Hill declared indigency and will be represented by a court-appointed attorney who was not immediately identified, said District Attorney Jon David, reports WECT.
He was booked into the Brunswick County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
Here is the thing. When he didn’t have money he had one type of woman. But once he got some real money, he started honoring his truths and going after what he really wanted.
When men don’t have money, they will take anything… Chances are he tricked his money off on having sex with MULTIPLE, young women.
Sidenote: I don’t know if this was an ongoing relationship or a pay for play one time incident. I just know that Hill had a wife and was cheating with the kind of women he really wanted to be with.
Sounds like Hill would’ve been better off without the money.
