Angry mother who tried to kill her husband, killed her 3-month-old baby instead

ATLANTA — Police say a mother got so upset with her husband that she deliberately flew into a black rage, tried to kill him, and thought about their 3-year-old daughter as an afterthought.

Atlanta police say Titayanna Phillips, 21, put the pedal to the metal, intentionally hitting a car carrying her 3-month-daughter and the child’s father inside.

The crashed happened in the northwest part of town on Monday around 7 p.m. along Eason Street near Chappell Road.

Shortly after her husband picked the child up Titayanna hopped into her car, chased him down and rammed into the vehicle he was driving..

Channel 2 spoke with a neighbor who said when they saw the crash people rushed over to the car to rescue the trapped father and child.

“We were in the house when we heard a boom,” said Taranjela Jones. “We saw her, the car was turned up sideways up against the tree, and she was ramming her car into the side of the car.”

They say the father had just picked up the child from the mother’s house.

“She was screaming, ‘I told him that I would kill him.’ And she said, ‘Can you all get my baby out of the car?’ She was screaming, ‘That’s my baby in the back seat,’” Jones said.

She told Regan that bystanders rushed to the wrecked car to try and rescue the father and baby inside.

“Everyone tried to get the people out of the car because the car started smoking,” Jones said.

Within minutes, firefighters arrived with the Jaws of Life and pried open the wreckage. They pulled out the father and baby, Khyundra Henderson, who later died at the hospital.

Police have not discussed a possible motive for the mother’s actions. Previous police reports on Phillips reveal she suffers from mental illness and did not have legal custody of the baby.

“It’s sad. It’s heartbreaking. It wasn’t worth it at all,” Jones said.

Khy’Undra Henderson, aged three months, was killed, and her father, Undra Henderson, 27, remains in stable condition.

Phillips was denied bond Wednesday. She’s been charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Henderson commented on the fatal crash on Facebook early Tuesday morning, writing: ‘Um blessed to be alive but without khy’undra this sht don’t even matter.’

It’s very important for women to learn to deal with some of the rage and control issues that come up when a woman is dealing with men who rub them the wrong way. If you focus on the well-being of your child, it will quite often help keep you focused on more positive thoughts.

Some reports claim that Titayanna wanted to have “sole” custody of Khy’undra – and didn’t want Undra to even have visitation – so she spazzed out.
Always remember that years later down the line, after you break-up, it’s just like you never met the person in the first place. Let the connection go and allow it to be whatever it is. Learning to stop trying to control everything is a major key in the life of any woman who hopes to have a healthy relationship.
