Jacob Blake’s father says his son is now paralyzed from the waist down, GoFundMe raises $1 Million dollars in 24 hours

Yesterday we reported to you the story of Jacob Blake, a black man who ignored orders of the police, turned his back to them, and proceeded to open up his car door and reach inside.

While I was watching and knew what was about to happen, I wondered WHY Jacob, a black man didn’t know what was about to happen to him.

Today we face the aftermath of Jacob’s decision to not obey police orders.

KENOSHA, Wisconsin — The father of Jacob Blake, a Black man who was shot by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, says his son was left paralyzed from the waist down.

Blake’s father told the Chicago Sun-Times that he was told his son was shot eight times during the Sunday evening confrontation with police, which was captured on cellphone video and led to two nights of unrest in the city between Milwaukee and Chicago.

The father, who is also named Jacob Blake and who was driving from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Kenosha to be with his son, told the newspaper that he learned Sunday night that officers had shot his son eight times and that he saw the now-viral video of it online a few minutes later that appears to show police shoot his son in the back.

He said his son now has “eight holes” in his body and is paralyzed from the waist down, though doctors don’t know if the paralysis will be permanent.

Anger over the shooting spilled into the streets of Kenosha for a second night Monday, with police again firing tear gas at hundreds of protesters who defied a curfew, threw bottles and shot fireworks at law enforcement guarding the courthouse.

The southeastern Wisconsin city became the nation’s latest flashpoint in a summer of racial unrest after cellphone footage of police shooting Blake as he leaned into his SUV — apparently while three of his children were sitting in the vehicle — circulated widely on social media. The 29-year-old was hospitalized in serious condition.

What bothers me in this situation is that, of course the situation could’ve easily been deescalated. But the aftermath is the aftermath. There are no taking those 7 bullet wounds out of his body. Unless he is VERY strong minded and understands his power in God, he will be paralyzed for the rest of his life.

I wonder WHY he was willing to put himself through that. As a black woman I know what can happen to a black man. As a black man I would expect him to know too.

This isn’t a blame game. It’s a be AWARE OF YOUR DECISIONS GAME.

Another thing is that it is said that black men are often gunned down by the police due to their own fear of the police. But Jacob obviously didn’t have that fear. So what are we supposed to tell black men? That their fear of the police isn’t real, and that it’s only in their head? This is when spiritual principles in my opinion become invalidated. Racism and the fact that cops often don’t see black men as humans, go beyond the laws of karma.

Yet we also can’t ignore the DECISION that Jacob made. It wasn’t a smart decision, at all. As to the cops, we can’t say the cop made a stupid decision, because rarely ever are they punished for their decisions. The cop won’t be going to jail, and even if he’s fired, he won’t have a hard time getting a job. But a black man does not have that same privilege.

What is it that we should tell black men at this point?

The good news is that Jacob’s family has raised nearly a million dollars overnight for a GoFundMe. But that won’t bring his health back.

Even more if Jacob a black man would’ve put up a GoFundMe to start a business just a week ago, surely he wouldn’t have collected a million dollars in support. So why do black women and men, have to be hurt, before anyone cares or tries to help them?
