RIP Beautiful Soul
20-year-old college student shot & killed over $100 AirPods
I do not write about crime anymore, because it attracts too many negative people who complain about anything and everything. But I heard this story and couldn’t help myself….
On Thursday night, an Alabama college student was fatally shot after she and her boyfriend arranged to meet with an unidentified suspect to sell a pair of AirPods for $100.
The coroner’s office identified the victim as 20-year-old Destiny Danielle Washington. She was shot in a parking lot outside of the Hill Student Center on campus .
Destiny was a nursing student completing classes at Lawson State Community College through a joint admission program with the University of Alabama Birmingham, reports AL.com.
Washington was completing classes at Lawson State Community College through UAB’s Joint Admission Program, AL.com reported. Washington was set to graduate in May 2021 as a registered nurse, the website reported. She was going to become a traveling nurse.
UAB police were dispatched at 9:49 p.m. to Children’s Hospital following a report about the victim, who had been transported by private vehicle and died at the hospital.
According to reports, the boyfriend confronted the suspect about paying with fake money, and began to drive off. The suspect then allegedly shot into the vehicle hitting Destiny and then fled. The boyfriend drove Destiny straight to the hospital, where she was announced dead at the scene.
Police on Monday announced the arrest of 22-year-old Carlos Londarrius Stephens. He is charged in the killing of 20-year-old Destiny Washington.
Stephens was a standout football player at Thompson High School, and then went on to play at UAB for his freshman year where he also excelled on the field. He is still a student but does not play football any longer. He’s being held without bond.
Destiny’s high school principal Michael Lee, told AL.com: “The thing I remember most about Destiny was her smile. She was a sweet, sweet soul.”
In high school, the student-athlete played basketball and volleyball, and was a member of the National Honor Society, the staff members said.
“We love all of our students,’’ Lee said, “but she was one of those special ones.”
Family members said Washington was on track to become a registered nurse next May, reports the Trussville Tribune.
“It was her resolve to be successful,” said Gaines. “She knew what she wanted to do and worked hard to be able to go to college and go into this nursing program. She never wavered on what she wanted.”
“It was just taking the life of somebody that had so much to offer.”
Brandee Crenshaw, Washington’s sister, said Washington was one semester away from becoming a Registered Nurse.
“My sister was a smart, beautiful Black queen,” Crenshaw said. “She was about to be a certified RN in May 2021. Destiny loved her family more than anything & her nephew Arion the most. My sister was the most helpful & outgoing person you would meet. She was sweet as pie & didn’t bother anyone.”
Crenshaw went on to say her sister did not deserve what happened to her.
Very sad story. I know the boyfriend feels incredibly sad that he couldn’t protect his woman.
I would advise anyone to not go off selling things to strangers. It’s easier to sell it over the internet and put it in the mail. Or even sell it to a pawn shop.
Prayers for her family, the boyfriend’s peace of mind, and that the suspect is caught, for this absolutely ridiculous, low-vibe crime.
With the internet being so readily available for information, it’s insane that someone would literally still be so low vibe as to kill someone over some $100 AirPods. Poverty mindsets are responsible for most violent crimes…
