Siohvaughn Funches-Wade has been quiet for a while, after experiencing the heartbreak of being dumped by her high school sweetheart turned multi-millionaire, NBA Superstar Dwayne Wade who took custody of their children and later married actress Gabrielle Union who helps raise the kids.
In 2016 Dr. Funches penned a book called “The True Story for God’s Glory.”
She would have done anything for Wade “legal or not,” she wrote, adding that when they were poor Chicago-area teens in south suburban Robbins, she once stole a pair of basketball sneakers for him by putting “on men’s basketball shoes over the top of my own shoes and walking out of the store with them on.”
Once they hit it rich, the stylish Wade would spend as much as $100,000 a month on custom clothes, she wrote.
But when their marriage turned sour, she alleged in the book, he’d tell her “I want to sow my wild oats” and “This isn’t your money and if you leave, nobody is going to want you and you aren’t going to have anything without me. You will end up having to go back and live at your mama’s house!”
Funches-Wade writes that she later found pictures and instant messages from other women on Wade’s phone. The marriage ended soon after, according to Funches-Wade’s account, when a woman called her in the middle of the night and told her she had just slept with Wade. The woman gave “a description of the underwear he was wearing,” Funches-Wade wrote.
Funches-Wade writes that money was the cause of her greatest struggle. She said that she’d never felt true EMPTINESS in her life until her bank account was full.
Now Siohvaughn is back, and ready for a new battle. Wade’s ex wife accuses him of using their transgender daughter, Zaya Wade, for financial gain.
Zaya transitioned to a transgender woman at 15 years of age. The NBA star recently filed a petition to legally change Zaya’s name on gender on her birth certificate, which Funches-Wade disagreed with.
In a petition acquired by The Blast, Funches-Wade says that according to their custody arrangement both parents must agree in order for a decision like this to be made. She also claimed that: “There are multiple factors to be considered by the Court in determining the requests to change the minor child’s name and gender. The minor child is fifteen and one-half years old.”
Funches-Wade, who is being represented by Mark Gross, added:
“This matter has been highly reported in the media and there will likely be media pressure on the minor child…I have concerns that (Dwyane) may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies.”
While Funches says that Dwayne didn’t consult her on the decision to change Zaya’s name, it does appear that Dwayne sat his ex-wife down and told her of Zaya’s success.
Siohvaughn stated that her ex-husband told her Zaya’s identity has been and will continue to be profitable:
“In April 2022, (Dwyane) invited me to one of his residences in Atlanta, Georgia. During this occasion, he informed me that a lot of money had been already made and that additional money will be made in relation to our child’s name and gender issue. (Dwyane) told me that he intended to make our child very famous due to the name and gender issue and also informed me that there would be endorsements/contracts associated therewith.”
Wade has been an incredibly supportive and protective father to Zaya during her journey. It’ll be interesting to see what the judge decides at the hearing in December.
In this day and age, everything is about branding, profit and being a celebrity. The more fame you have the more CASH you can collect.
Some people don’t mind being poor and unknown because they believe that somehow makes them better or closer to God.
In this case, Zaya seems to have made her own decision and is very happy. Zaya wants to be a superstar and an influencer.
I don’t see anywhere in the report where Siovahugn asked Zaya how SHE feels about all of this.
If a boy wants to be a girl at 15, chances are, that won’t change 10-years from now.
