Remains of missing pregnant teen found in backyard of Chicago Southwest Side home

Some people don’t have the brain cells to commit crimes… But they do it anyway.

CHICAGO (WLS) — Human remains found near a home on Chicago’s Southwest Side have been identified as a 19-year-old woman who has been missing for three weeks, who was nine months pregnant when she disappeared, officials said Wednesday afternoon.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified remains found at a home in the 4100-block of West 77th Place as Marlen Ochoa-Uriostegui. They said her cause of death was ligature strangulation. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

A family member told FOX 32 that before Ochoa-Uriostegui was reported missing, she went to the 4100 block of West 77th Place to swap baby strollers with a woman she met in a Facebook group for pregnant mothers who claimed that she was pregnant as well.

Ochoa-Uriostegui never showed up to pick up her 3-year-old son from daycare April 23 and was reported missing.

The same day Ochoa-Uriostegui was reported missing, a baby was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center with brain injuries from the 4100 block of West 77th Place, according to the Ochoa-Uriostegui family.

The family of Ochoa-Uriostegui says that DNA tests concluded the baby belongs to Marlen.

A statement from the family claims “the baby has been determined to be without any brain function and will be taken off of life support.”

A spokesperson with the family of Ochoa-Uriostegui said tips from the public led them to direct police to the home in the 4100-block of West 77th Place. Police said four persons of interest, two men and two women, were taken from the home for questioning Tuesday.

Three persons of interest remain in custody Wednesday, Chicago police said.

How is it possible that they didn’t know they would be caught after committing such a heinous crime with contacted initiated in a Facebook group?
