Beef or Promotion? D.L. Hughley Responds to Mo’Nique’s Contract Dispute Claim (AGAIN)
Social media is getting their full drama kick in this week watching the drama between Mo’Nique and D.L. Hughley unfold on stage and on social media.
The story starts back in April, when 50 Cent announced Mo’Nique was joining the cast of his Starz series as part of his efforts to “put her back on.” The comedian has also been tapped to replace Octavia Spencer in the upcoming Lee Daniels film Demon House, apparently squashing their once contentious relationship.
Now fast forward to May, and Mo’Nique is back on top. Just like that.
She’s on tour with D.L. Hughley, who says he took a chance on her. But she still had a problem with him.
Mo’Nique Fires Off At D.L. Hughley Over Headlining Disagreement, “That’s A B*tch N*gga”
On May 27, comedians D.L. Hughley and Mo’Nique participated in The Comedy Explosion at the Fox Theater in Detroit, Michigan. The night of comedy was hosted by Josh Adams and introduced comedian Aida Rodriguez.
During the show, fans were blown away after Mo’Nique spat some hateful words into the microphone about D.L. The 54-year-old felt a certain type of way over a contract dispute. It was said that she was supposed to headline the event, but that did not go as planned.
Mo’Nique told the crowd during her set at the Comedy Explosion in Detroit that her contract stipulated she would be the headliner. “That’s what the motherfucking contract says…Mo’Nique is to be the last motherfucking person on the got damn stage. She is the headliner. That’s what I signed the contract for,” she said.

D. L. Hughley STRIKES BACK At Mo’Nique
DL HUGHLY then responded:
“All you have to do is check the order of names on the ticket stub from last night and you’ll see who’s confused,” Hughley wrote. “Against my better judgment, over the objections of my team and 4 other occasions where I said NO, I decided to take a chance and work with Monique.”
“Oprah was the problem,” the male comedian continued. “Tyler Perry was the problem, Charlamagne was the problem, Steve Harvey was the problem, Lee Daniels was the problem, Netflix was the problem… Now it’s MY turn.”
“At some point it can’t be everyone else, IT’S YOU!! Lesson learned. I didn’t have anything personal against Monique… People paid a lot of money to laugh, not hear about your contract. Apparently, the role you played in PRECIOUS turned out to be an autobiography. I wonder who’s next…”
DL Then posted about the contract on Instagram..
Check out Mo’Nique and DL’s full response below.

“The fact that you point the people to the ticket stubs for the order of the names versus to your contract implies that you don’t have a contract that shows you are the headliner like I do,” Mo’Nique responded in a lengthy Instagram post. “Either show your contract or be quiet.”
After warning him to stop messing with “people who once considered him a comrade in comedy,” Mo’Nique added, “But I thank you DL because you’re the reason why I fight for my people like I do. Anytime you opened for the King’s Of Comedy, and I was the headliner for the Queens of Comedy and you think you should close the show over me is a prime example of the bias that Black women have to deal with in this business. I won’t even discuss awards.”
I am just wondering if this is great acting for the sake of attention, cause logically this makes no sense. Mo’Nique just got back in, so it doesn’t seem like she would hop in going off. That is unless 50 Cent is in her ear telling her how to market.
