How An NBA Player Lost His $80 Million Salary Cause Abusing His Girlfriend Was More Important

One thing I’ve learned about abusive men is that their narcissism is really high.  What intrigues me is that they care so little about their own livelihood and careers that they will continuously abuse a woman over and over again, until she can’t take it anymore and calls the cops on him.

That looks to be the case of Kevin Porter Jr.

I read a story about him today on Baller Alert.

The site reports that  Kevin Porter Jr. went from being a high-flying NBA athlete with a sweet $80 million deal, to now playing basketball in Greece for a mere $10K.  He took such a downfall that the Daily Mail recently called him an NBA REJECT…. Ouch!

“NBA reject Kevin Porter Jr. has been spotted plying his trade in Greece, roughly six months after the Oklahoma City Thunder waived him following his domestic assault charge.”

Porter, who last played for the Houston Rockets during the 2022-23 NBA season, was arrested and charged for allegedly assaulting and stranguling his then-girlfriend and WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick in September in a hotel room in Manhattan. A year after prior Porter had signed a four-year, $82.5million contract extension.

This incident led to Gondrezick being hospitalized with significant injuries.

After the scandal, the Houston Rockets traded Porter to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who then cut ties with him immediately, leaving him without a team in the NBA.

When I first heard this story last year and say a picture of the couple, I wondered why he would take a chance on abusing such a beautiful, popular woman.

The 23-year-old guard was arrested in Sept. for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend & WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick

Like most women who get abused. She eventually recanted most of her story, in order to soften the blow and the punishment that Porter would receive.

As a result, Manhattan prosecutors dropped the second-degree assault charge against Porter, who only faced counts of third-degree assault and second-degree strangulation.

In January Porter accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault and a second-degree harassment violation.

Porter can reportedly have the assault charge cleared from his criminal record in a year by completing a court-ordered program.

By the way, when the Thunder dropped him Porter was still able to collect $16.5M from his massive NBA deal. So he’s not broke. But he’s still paying for $10K overseas and no longer in the NBA.  His girl Kysre is signed to a WNBA training camp contract.

So I ask, why do men like Porter feel like the abuse they inflict on women is worth losing everything that they worked so hard for?
